Street Watch and Speed Watch

Street Watch
Shillington has a team of volunteers who each spend 2 hours every month patrolling the village.
We keep our eyes peeled for suspicious or anti-social behaviour and liaise with Bedfordshire Police.

Mostly we have an enjoyable walk, a good chat and an occasional meet up for drinks!
Speed Watch
We also have a team of Community Speed Watch volunteers.
Trained members of the community visit Police-approved locations to record the details of offending vehicles.

Anyone caught speeding will be sent a letter from Bedfordshire Police informing them of their offence.

We’re a friendly and welcoming group and we would love to grow our numbers. Take a look at the info below and if you’d like to contact the groups go to the Contact page and select ‘Streetwatch’ from the drop down menu of recipients.

Information from Bedfordshire Police: –

Bedfordshire Street Watch gives you and your community an opportunity to keep your area safe by walking around your neighbourhood and encouraging people to report things, like antisocial behaviour, vandalism and suspicious behaviour, to us, which can really help.

As a Street Watch member, you’ll patrol your local area alongside one of your neighbours for at least two hours every month, at times which suit you.
You’ll talk to people you meet and encourage them to take an active interest in keeping your area safe. So your neighbours know what you’re there for, you wear a high-visibility Street Watch jacket.
You’ll be supported by:
> the local Street Watch coordinator
> your local police
We’ll provide an induction and training, as well as an attack alarm, torch and notebook.
